Mark Pearl

We set a few family goals at the beginning of the year. I’ve put them below with comments on how we are doing with each of them…

Honour Sabbath:

  • Have more walks that are more Sunday appropriate
  • identify Sunday appropriate walks and write them down on a list
We've struggled doing this over winter with the rain. Now that Summer should be here we can start this up again.
  • Try get to church before it starts
  • have kids hair brushed, teeth cleaned and them in the car by 12:50, head for car by 12:45
Managed to do this like 2 or 3 times this year. When we did it was great, got to speak to people and really enjoy the service however we seem to leave getting ready for church to the last minute.
  • Do more activities with Devin & Nicole, aim for 1-2 Sunday get togethers a month
  • speak to them and pre-book Sundays when we can do something and who is going where
With them having church in the morning and us in the afternoon this hasn't really happened much. Next year with the new times we think we will have more success with this.
  • Do more activities with the Children giving them more direct attention
  • aim for at least 1 activity like this per Sunday
  • make list of 10 activities we can do with kids on a Sunday – play games like memory game – bake cookies & take them to someone
Really enjoyed doing this and initially we were good with it but we've gotten a bit slack on this and are only having 'special' time. Going to pick this up.

Seek the Blessings of the Temple:

  • Go to the Temple for at least once a quarter
  • Tag team with Devin & Nicole for first month and re-evaluate
  • Pick a date now and diarise it
Did this until the Temple closed, it was great.
  • Take the kids to the Temple to see the visitors centre at least once this year for a family “temple activity”
Did this, had a camp. The kids enjoyed the camp and we enjoyed the Temple.

Increase Spiritual & Temporal Self-reliance

  • Pay a monthly fast offering
Doing
  • Mark to fast at least once a quarter
Doing
  • Read scriptures with kids daily, aim for 1 verse per child re-evaluate
Doing
  • Have daily companionship prayers
  • ask question what are we thankful for
  • ask question what do we need help with
  • which person should we pray for tonight
Getting slack, did this initially but recently I've fallen asleep and when we have had prayers they have been rote. Need to re-commit to this.
  • Do weekly FHE
  • alternate doing family home evening
  • companion to remind person on the Sunday about FHE on the Monday
  • prepare 2 months worth of topics for FHE at a time, go through the list the first Sunday of every month
Been doing this with great value. The kids love FHE.

Areas of focus

We are going to relook at meaningful companionship prayer and activities with the kids on Sundays
